THIS COULD HAVE BEEN EASTER OF 2007. ACTUALLY THE SNOW COVER WOULD HAVE CAUSED LESS DAMAGE TO THE PLANTS. (NOTE THE FLOWERS POPPING THROUGH THE SNOW.)
WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE LOWER 20'S, THE ST. LOUIS AREA HIT NEW LOW RECORDS. THE QUESTION ASKED FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS HAS BEEN, "WHAT WILL THE COLD TEMPERATURES DO TO MY PLANTS?"
REGRETFULLY, ANY ANNUAL FLOWERS WHICH WERE FOOLISHLY PLANTED OR LEFT OUTSIDE ARE PROBABLY DEAD. SOME PERENNIALS WILL LOSE SOME OF THE TENDER NEW GROWTH BUT THE PLANT WILL SURVIVE. TREES AND SHRUBBERY FOR THE MOST PART WILL BE OKAY BUT SOME OF THE TENDER NEW GROWTH WILL BE SET BACK. WE HAVE NOTED THAT HYDRANGEAS, CRYPE MYRTLE, ROSE OF SHARON, FARED THE WORSE. SOME OF THE NEW TENDER GROWTH WILL UNDOUBTEDLY BE HURT BUT THE PLANT WILL BE FINE. JUST ANOTHER TYPICAL (ATYPICAL) SPRING IN ST. LOUIS.
