The daily work on the fort progresses with interior walls on the huts being completed. The Lewis party returns from the Mandan and Hidata villages. Two of the Hidatsa chiefs accompanied the party back to Fort Mandan. Lewis has spent the last two days reassuring the Mandans and the Hidatsa that the Americans are not building the fort and forging an alliance with the Sioux. The men of the corps dance to entertain the Indians.

Just before sunrise a cold snap hits Fort Mandan. The warm weather from the previous day quickly turns cold and the prospect of snow is in the air. Little work is accomplished on completing the Fort due to the extreme cold, windy weather.

OLD SIGN PHILOSOPHER, THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY!
HAPPY 30TH BIRTHDAY.......JASON
Smile.........tomorrow may be worse! (it's snowing now)
Twas the night before Thanksgiving
And anticipations were high,
For there's a feast to prepare
Complete with spiced pumpkin pie!
The casseroles were all set to arrive
With aunts and with cousins and all who would drive
From states far away or fly in from school,
All ready to buy into the big football pool.
The leaves for the table were all put in place
With napkins and runners, ironed linen and lace;
The centerpiece glistened with ripe polished fruit
And eggnog awaited--with brandy to boot!
Stuffing and gravy, red cranberry sauce
And other dishes from recipes lost,
All handed down from generations past,
Have been reinvented from Thanksgiving last.
Though it's only a day, maybe it can last for two....
For tomorrow we'll all have warm turkey stew.
So, we're sending our blessings from the GARDENS to you
For a Happy Thanksgiving and great leftovers too!
LEWIS & CLARK EXPEDITION 200 YEARS AGO TODAY 11/24/1804
The men are hard at work completing their quarters before the harsh winter arrives. They are roofing the huts and continue finishing the interior walls with clay coating to draft proof the living quarters.

THE OLD SIGN PHILOSOPHER, THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!
The Christmas shopping season
Has officially begun,
And post-Thanksgiving shoppers
Are now all on the run!
Pushing and shoving,
There's a SALE to get to!
I'm telling you, it's crazy,
The mall's become a ZOO!
Kiddies of all ages and temper
Some wide eyed with glee
Others squawking and screaming--
Make this a joyous shopping spree!
Santa's here for photos today
So even baby's been dragged along
To pose for holiday pictures--
Or to cry and scream for mom....
The merry Christmas carols
Have now all been drowned out
By multitudes of bratty children
Chaotically gallivanting about.
Grumpy hubbies and boytoys
Are forced to follow in tow
Because the misses won't stand
To hear them answer "NO".
They're whipping out their wallets
And carting loads of gifts,
Then muttering to themselves
As they assess all the debts.
It's sure to cause a headache
And a pair of sore feet too....
What a lousy, painful thing
We're putting ourselves through!
Actually though....You know what?
I think I can preserve the holiday cheer....
Because I got a grand idea,
Do all your shopping at Greenscape this year!!!!!
Happy Thanksgiving!!!
LEWIS & CLARK EXPEDITION 200 YEARS AGO TODAY 11/22/1804
Captain Clark rushes to Jusseaume's lodge upon hearing that a Mandan warrior is about to kill his wife. She had stayed at the lodge for a few days after a family arguement. Upon returning to her people, she quickly returned to the interpreter's, beaten and stabbed. Clark tells the husband that no such violence will be tolerated near Fort Mandan.
